Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees Highlight MLB…

The 2012 MLB regular season is well underway with a full month of baseball already in the books. It is still a long road to October baseball but paths are already starting to take shape and many surprises have already occurred along the way. The beginning of the year brings promise but at this point in the season anything can still happen.

The highlight of the day will be when the Tampa Bay Rays visit the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York, N.Y.

James Shields (5-0, 3.05 ERA) will take the mound for the Rays looking for his sixth win of the season facing off against Ivan Nova (3-1, 5.58 ERA) of the Yankees. In this bitter AL East rivalry game, Tampa Bay is battling it out with the surprisingly red-hot Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the division while the Yankees are slowly working their way back into the fight.

With a number of great games to be played on the day, this will be one of the better ones.

Ten New York Yankees I Will Forgive This Easter

Forgiveness: the act of forgiving or the state of being forgiven.

When you attain the historical level to which the New York Yankees franchise has you do so with both heroes and villains. The heroes are worshiped. The villains are vilified. However, this year, I will be the better person and choose to forgive.

Here are the 10 Yankees I have chosen to forgive despite their shortcomings in pinstripes:

Cliff Johnson

The 1979 season was a disastrous year for the New York Yankees. It started with the Yankees shipping Sparkly Lyle to Texas and proceeded to get only worse from there, as Cliff Johnson brawled with reliever Rich Gossage, subsequently tearing ligaments in Goose’s thumb. Gossage spent over two months on the DL. Johnson was quickly shipped to Cleveland.

Billy Martin

We all blamed Reggie for his strained relationship with Billy Martin. Yet, history shows Martin’s excessive drinking and Reggie’s larger-than-life persona were just a powder keg waiting to explode. In retrospect, Reggie was just being Reggie while Billy Martin let his anger and resentment control circumstances.

Roger Clemens

The man who introduced the world to the word “misremembered.” Enough said.

Jim Bouton

His book “Ball Four” was the precursor of tell-all sports books. The television show starring Burton is still one of the worst comedies of all time, despite lasting just five episodes.

Kevin Brown

Hot-tempered pitcher loses his cool. Pitcher punches wall. Pitcher breaks his hand. Wall declared the victor.

Butch Wynegar

In July of 1987, Wynegar simply walked away from the Yankees. “Nice-guy” Wynegar just didn’t want the pressure of playing in New York for George Steinbrenner. Obviously, he will never appear on “The Apprentice” sitting between Arsenio Hall and Aubrey O’Day.

Brian Taylor

The poster boy for “How to Ruin a Great Future in Baseball.” The prized 1991 first overall draft pick of the New York Yankees now faces stiff charges for allegedly trafficking drugs.

George Steinbrenner

He was absolutely nuts in the 1980s. How many more times could he possibly bring Billy Martin back to New York? What else would he do to be reprimanded by Major League Baseball? Mellowing significantly in his latter years, only Steinbrenner would have the gumption to pass on the day of the MLB All-Star game. You gotta love George.

Joba Chamberlain

Not quite as bad a Kevin Brown, but DUI charges, “bug-gate” in Cleveland, an uneven temperament, and an affection for trampolines is enough to land him on the list.

The “New” Yankee Stadium

Yes, it’s gorgeous. Nonetheless, nothing can replace the “House that Ruth Built.”

New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves Highlight MLB…

Spring training is winding down and rosters are beginning to take shape. In less than two weeks, teams will return to their respective cities and begin the grueling process to October baseball.

Highlighting the matchups for Wednesday, March 28 is the New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves. The Yankees are traditionally one of the strongest teams in the American League and this year will be no different despite the fact they play in the strong AL East.

The Braves are another team big things are expected from this season. They will have a tough division schedule with the strong Philadelphia Phillies but also with the up-and-coming Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals. As both teams are putting the finishing touches on their opening day rosters, this game will surely be a battle.
