
| Yankees put 3B Rodriguez on DL, promote OF Golson | |
TORONTO (AP) — The New York Yankees have put third baseman Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list while he recovers from surgery on his right knee. The Yankees made the move Thursday and promoted outfielder Greg Golson from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Coming off the All-Star break, New York opens a series in Toronto starting Thursday night. Rodriguez had surgery Monday to repair a tear in his knee and is expected to miss four to six weeks. He is hitting .295 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs, but has gone 85 at-bats with homering. Golson played for the Yankees last year in the postseason. He is hitting .295 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in Triple-A this year. That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow. Rodriguez left injured in the seventh inning of Saturday’s victory over Texas. He entered Wednesday batting .385 with four homers and nine RBIs, and he leads the AL in on-base percentage (.500) and slugging percentage (.821). Yankees manager Joe Girardi wanted to see how A-Rod felt after going through batting practice, but said he expected him to play. On Tuesday, Rodriguez hit in the cage, took grounders and played catch but did not take BP. Rodriguez was in the lineup in his regular cleanup spot, with Robinson Cano hitting fifth. Eric Chavez, who replaced Rodriguez the past two games, returned to the bench.

| Former New York Yankees third baseman Scott Brosius named U.S. U-18 manager | |
Updated: February 7, 2011, 3:07 PM ET DURHAM, N.C. — Former World Series MVP Scott Brosius has become the manager of the under-18 national team for the United States. USA Baseball made the announcement Monday. Brosius was the MVP when the New York Yankees won the 1998 championship. The All-Star third baseman is going into his fourth year as head coach at Linfield College in Oregon. The under-18 team will play in a Pan American tournament at Colombia starting in late September. Former big leaguer Brian McRae will be an assistant coach on the team.
